1. Purpose

A. encourage student involvement in amateur radio

B. communicate with other "hams" and/or amateur radio clubs

C. improve student skills concerning radio theory and operation

D. provide emergency radio service for the local community

E. provide communications for public service

2. Membership Requirements

A. Any SWHS student or faculty member interested in amateur radio, or interested in obtaining an FCC amateur radio license is eligible to join.

B. Types of Membership

1 ) Active--An active member must hold a novice or higher amateur radio license; and he/she is authorized, with the club Trustee's permission, to operate the club station.

2) Associate--An associate member is one in the process of obtaining an FCC amateur license. He/she is entitled to all of the club priveleges except the following:

    1. an associate member may not hold a club office or vote during the election of officers
    2. an associate member may not operate the club radio station.

3) Officers -- one year term of office

  1. President--The president presides over meetings and is the principal representative of the club when dealing with the student body and the public. He/she also appoints necessary committees.
  2. Vice-President--The vice-president will take over for the president during his/her absence. He/she is also responsible for the maintenance and operation of the club station, including the station log.
  3. Secretary--The secretary is responsible for the minutes of all general and special club meetings, all club correspondence, and the club constitution.
  4. Treasurer--The treasurer is responsible for all club finances and financial records.
  5. Historians--The two historians are responsible for the club activity book.

3. Elections - Nominations for offices will be during the April meeting, and election of officers will be during the May meeting. A simple majority vote of the memberhsp is necessary to elect each officer.

4. Impeachment of Officers - Officers may be impeached for failing to carry out their prescribed duties. A 75% vote of the club council is necessary to initiate impeachment proceedings, and a 67% vote of the total club membership (secret ballot) is necessary for impeachment. A regular election to fill the vacant office must be held within two weeks after an impeachment.

5. Club Council - The club council consists of the president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The council shall provide direction for the club and call special meetings.

6. Meetings - Meetings will be held the second Tuesday, each month, at 7 PM; the time and date of special meetings will be set by the club council. A quorum will consist of at least 20% of the total club membership. A simple majority of the voting membership present will pass all items of general business. Amendments to the consistution require a 2/3 majority vote (secret ballot) of the total membership. "Roberts Rules of Order" will be used during all meetings.

7. Dues -- $8 per year; payable before the third general meeting.

8. Awards --

Department Scholar:

  1. Hold a general (or higher) amateur radio license,
  2. Have communicated with amateur operators from 25 or more states,
  3. Have actively participated in at least 75% of all Cubs Amateur Radio Society functions

Faculty Scholar:

  1. Hold an advanced or extra amateur radio license,
  2. Have communicated with amateur operators from 25 or more DX (foreign) countries,
  3. Have participated in radio communications from at least three of the following:
    1. ARES National Weather Service Net,
    2. ARES/RACES or other amateur radio net for one school year,
    3. Three athletic or public service events,
    4. ARRL Contest,
    5. Three amateur radio demonstrations
