Forming A School Radio Club
Check-Off Sheet
- Recruit students for your school radio club. Contact ARRL Field & Educational Services for handouts to place in classrooms, libraries, on bulletin boards, and in the cafeteria (a small fee may be charged for handouts, to cover the cost of shipping and handling). Set up a ham radio demonstration on the school lawn, quad, or in the gym.
- Request an ARRL School Teacher Registration Package. It contains details about publications, Instructor/Teacher Discounts, and many articles and publications relating to Amateur Radio in the classroom.
- Get a club call sign. Complete, then return the form to ARRL HQ. This is a free service.
- Enjoy great benefits by becoming an ARRL Affiliated Club. A special Resolution eases affiliation for school clubs by requiring only the club president, trustee, faculty member or sponsor to be an ARRL member and licensed amateur. ARRL Club Affiliation information can be obtained from ARRL Field & Educational Services.
- Request a list of videos available from the ARRL F&ES Video Library. Videotapes include programs on recruitment, Space Amateur Radio Experiment (SAREX), ham radio in space, and various operating activities. A small fee is charged for each tape, which covers duplicating, shipping and handling. (http://www.arrl.org/ead/videos.html)
- Plan a Novice and/or Technician licensing class. The most successful school radio clubs are those that offer licensing classes. The ARRL School Teacher Registration Package includes information on instructional and study materials. Order copies of Now You're Talking!, 3rd Edition for your students, and a copy of the ARRL Novice/Technician Instructor's Guide for the class instructor(s).
