Frequently Asked Questions about ARRL Contests
- When will the online results be
available for each contest?
We
are still working on the schedule, but in general, the results should be
available to ARRL members about 4 months after the end of the event. This allows us time to process logs,
handle problems, add in paper-logs and for the author to generate a nice
write-up. This is about 4-6 weeks
sooner than the current QST schedule.
- Is it true the ARRL is going to remove
contest results from QST?
Absolutely,
positively not. Only the pages of line
scores are being removed.
- How will these changes impact the
reporting of my favorite event, Field Day?
Field
Day results are unaffected by these changes and will continue to be
presented in QST as in the past.
- So if you remove five pages of line
scores from a six-page QST feature there will only be one page of write-up
left?
No. While there will be a total reduction
in the number of pages for most results, there will be a net increase in
total pages of editorial content (write-up) for most articles.
- I have been downloading the QST article
in an Adobe .pdf file. Will that
still be available?
The
.PDF file of the actual article from QST will still be available
online. We will also provide
a .PDF file of the line scores in
a format similar to the current QST layout.
- I am not a member of the ARRL. When will I be able to access the
complete results?
Non-ARRL
members will still be able to access certain parts of the online results:
the online Soapbox and the .PDF of the QST article. This is posted when the issue of QST in
which the article appears is released to the printers. This is normal about 30 days before the
start of the month covered by that issue of QST. (For example, articles
that appear in the June issue of QST will appear online in PDF form around
the first of May).
- What if I don't have access to the ARRL
Web?
We
will provide copies of the line score .PDF file to ARRL members upon
receipt by the ARRL Contest Branch of a written request and SASE. Please be sure to include the specific
contest for which you wish results and sufficient postage.
- I always enjoy the Soapbox items and
photographs. Will they be
available?
The
Online Soapbox is available to anyone on the ARRL Web. Just go to www.arrl.org/contests/soapbox/
and select the contest that you wish to view. You will find lots of interesting comments and photographs
from many of your fellow contesters
- How do I post items to the Online
Soapbox?
Items may be posted at www.arrl.org/contests/soapbox/
by both ARRL members and non-members alike. Once you select a contest, follow the link for adding your
comments. The Online Soapbox site
opens at the end of the contest period for a particular contest and will
remain accessible.
