East Alabama Amateur Radio Club

Field Day for the East Alabama Amateur Radio Special Service Club is always a team effort. Here we have Jerry Hemby, W1NRA, (left), Don Huey, KA4NDY, and Jim Miller, KE4TEN (Lee County EC) standing. |
The East Alabama Amateur Radio Club serves Hams in the east central part
of Alabama. Last year we had 63 members. We meet on the third Tuesday of
each month at the Emergency Operation Center in Opelika, Alabama. We enjoy
a great relationship with EOC, and man an amateur station provided by EOC
during storm alerts. Members of EAARC activate and run "Sky Warn" nets in
time of impending bad weather. The club has sponsored a series of "Sky
Warn" classes offered by the National Weather Service, so that Hams all
speak the same weather language, and know how to recognize weather phenomena
that may develop into something more serious. Each month, an information
packed newsletter, the EAARC Beacon is sent to all members, and others.
Annually, we provide radio coverage for a 10k "Love Your Heart Run", and a
double marathon race through the nearby Tuskegee National Forrest. Club
Officers for the year 2000 are Darrell Penrod, K9MUG, President, Don Huey,
KA4NDY, Vice-President, Cheryl Whitlock, N4JFV, Newsletter Editor, and G.J.
Koellsted, KE4TEM, Secretary/Treasurer. Thanks for the honor of the
spotlight. (See more about us at http://www.w4lee.com/.)
