ARES teams in Arizona and New Mexico prepared to activate during a particularly active fire season. In addition, hams in Colorado stood by to assist those fighting fires there.
ARRL emergency communications volunteers were on flood duty in the ARRL Eastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey and Southern New Jersey sections after an extended period of heavy rain caused rivers and streams to overflow in a wide area of the Northeast.
The first of five ARRL Teachers Institutes sponsored by the ARRL Education and Technology Program (ETP) was held in Roseville, California.
ARRL has added The Republic of Montenegro to the DXCC List. Claims for DXCC credit will be accepted immediately.
The ARRL DXCC Desk has inaugurated the DXCC Dialog Weblog -- containing news and notes about the ARRL DXCC program.
The ARRL DXCC Desk has approved T61AA, Afghanistan, current operation effective May 23, 2006, for credit.
The ARRL DXCC Desk has announced new language to replace the wording of a previously removed DXCC rule pertaining to political entities.
Those who took part in ARRL Field Day 2006 are invited to post photos and narratives to the Contest Soapbox for all to see.
In his role as vice president of the ARRL Foundation, ARRL Dakota Division Director Jay Bellows, K0QB, presented the 2006 ARRL Scholarship to Honor Senator Barry Goldwater, K7UGA, to Melissa Johnson, K1MJ, of Bemidji, Minnesota.
The ARRL invites nominations for the Joe Knight Distinguished Service Award. The award recognizes "exceptionally notable contributions by a Section Manager to the health and vitality of the League."
ARRL President Joel Harrison, W5ZN, addressed the ARRL West Gulf Division forum during the Ham-Com 2006 in Plano, Texas. Representing ARRL Headquarters were Chief Development Officer Mary Hobart, K1MMH, who discussed the importance of the League's development activities to Amateur Radio, and Field and Regulatory Correspondent Chuck Skolaut, K0BOG, who talked about the Headquarters' response to Hurricane Katrina.
ARRL Chief Operating Officer Harold Kramer, WJ1B, was the primary ARRL forum speaker during the ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Convention -- HamCon Colorado -- in Estes Park, Colorado. The convention's keynote speaker was ARRL Rocky Mountain Division Vice Director Brian Mileshosky, N5ZGT.
The ARRL has asked the FCC to avoid making any changes within the 902-928 MHz allocation that might increase the noise floor or otherwise adversely affect Amateur Radio operations there, including further deployment of unlicensed Part 15 devices.
Radio amateurs taking advantage of recent openings on 6 meters are advised that the ARRL 6-meter band plan designates the segment 50.100 to 50.125 MHz as the "DX window."
ARRL's second Kids Day of 2006 took place June 17, and the second Take Your Handheld to Work Day was June 20.
The June VHF QSO Party took place, and several ARRL HQ staffers activated W1AW once again during Field Day weekend.
ARRL President Joel Harrison, W5ZN, has appointed Karl W. Bullock, WA5TMC, of Ripley, Mississippi, to be Delta Division Vice Director.
ARRL Field and Educational Services Manager Dave Patton, NN1N, has named past San Diego Section Manager Pat Bunsold, WA6MHZ, of El Cajon to complete the remainder of the term of Tuck Miller, NZ6T, who resigned for health reasons.
ARRL First Vice President Kay Craigie, N3KN, represented the League at the second Global Amateur Radio Emergency Communications (GAREC) Conference. GAREC 2006 in Tampere, Finland, in parallel with the International Conference on Emergency Communications (ICEC 2006).
The winner of the QST Cover Plaque Award for May is Marv Loftness, KB7KK, for his article "That Noise--When to Call the Power Company."
