This week, Surfin' picks up where it left off last week with more hamming at the theme parks.
I received e-mails updating last week's Surfin' about radio operations at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. After researching the matter further, I combined the updates and my findings in this week's Surfin'.
West Coast
The Web site of Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, California, states that "The Knott's Berry Farm Amateur Radio Club is happy to provide guests who are Amateur Radio operators visiting the Knott's Resort access to the club's repeater, K6KBF. The repeater frequency is 445.520 (-) with a PL of 85.4 Hz."
East Coast
Regarding my reference last week to the location of a 2 meter repeater atop Space Mountain, Bill Bailey, KG4NZR, wrote, "It is urban legend that the Walt Disney World Disney Emergency Amateur Radio Service (DEARS) WD4WDW repeater was located on top of Space Mountain at Magic Kingdom. It was in fact located atop the Contemporary Resort across the street from Magic Kingdom. In 2006, the repeaters were relocated to another tower on the property."
According to the AC0Y Repeater Web site, Coy Hilton, AC0Y, the current president of DEARS, is the owner of VHF and UHF repeaters that cover Walt Disney World. His 146.700 and 442.500 MHz repeaters also cover Universal Studios and SeaWorld.
For what it's worth, my APRS 2 meter repeater and weather station, WA1LOU, sits on Compounce Mountain in Connecticut overlooking (and I assume covering) Lake Compounce, the oldest amusement/theme park in the USA.
