Product Notes, Corrections and Updates

First Edition, First Printing -- Errata

Chap 2, The captions for Figures 2-3 and 2-5 should indicate that for the "simplest receiver" to operate, there must be a dc path between antenna and ground. This can be part of the antenna or, if there is none there, a high value resistor or RF choke. In Figure 2-8, there needs to be a dc path on the output side of the detector. A 20 kΩ or larger resistor in parallel with the .01 µF capacitor will do it.

Chap 3, P 3-3, Figures 3-3 and 3-4. The transformer primaries should be 30 turns, not 3 turns as shown.

Chap 6, Equation 6-1. The term in the square brackets should be [cos (A - B) - cos (A + B)].

Chap 6, Figure 6-8. The final result is correct as shown, however there are two sign errors in the equations. The third line at the output of Mixer 1 should be Sin{(F1t) - (F2t)}/2. The two terms at the output of Mixer 2 should be Cos{(F1t) - (F2t)}/2 - Cos{(F1t) + (F2t)}/2

Chap 6, Review Question 3. The Figure reference should be to Figure 6-8 on the same page.

Chap 7, Figure 7-17, remove note.

Chap 11, Figure 11-7, Lower left -- "Fixed Range Typically 50 kHz Wide" should be: "Fixed Range Typically 500 kHz Wide".

Chapter 11, page 11-10. "Note that if all the k coefficients above zero equal zero..." should read: "Note that if all the k coefficients above k1 equal zero, it describes a straight line. If only k2 is non-zero, it describes our ideal mixer's parabolic response curve."

Chapter 24. Title should be "Radionavigation Systems" not "Radiolocation Systems" (chap 23 title). Table of contents is ok.

Appendix A1, Figures A1-10, A1-11; Change caption"...with RF and AF amplifiers." to "...with RF amplifier."

P A-12, the lower capacitor shown as C-4 should be labeled C-3. In addition the connections to L1 are wrong and capacitor C1 is missing. The corrected schematic is attached. Note that I have added C5, a 100 pF ceramic capacitor in place of the transformer coupled arrangement to allow the frame of C1 to be grounded.
