    THE WATERVILLE AREA WIRELESS ASSOCIATION/WA1WA HAM RADIO CLUB WILL HOLD A FOX HUNT ON SAT., MAY 10 FROM 9 AM TO NOON, IN WATERVILLE AND WINSLOW. CONTACT RON W1SSF AT 873-2071 OR ON THE 147.285 REPEATER. ALL ARE WELCOME TO COME AND HAVE SOME FUN WITH HAM RADIO AND FINDING THE FOX. THERE WELL BE A $50.00 PRIZE TO THE WINNER.

    American Diabetes Association's Tour de Cure Sunday, June 22

    Beginning and ending at The Middle School of the Kennebunks in West Kennebunk. The event begins at 7 AM and ends up around 2 PM. The event includes three bike rides in the form of a 100K, 50K and 25K rides. For the most part this event requires that communicators have a 25 watt radio and a portable antenna system as a minimum although there is one rest stop that only needs a handheld. Although this is an all day event, early outs are possible. The operational frequency for the event is the Sanford repeater on 147.18 MHz (+) (100.0 Hz tone).
    We need a minimum of seven hams to provide communications for the event. We will be getting together at 6:30 AM at Middle School of the Kennebunks for assignments and briefing.

    MEMA Seeking Seeking Candidates for Volunteer RACES Director Position

    February 12, 2008

    After 20 years of service with MEMA as the Maine Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES) Director, Rod Scribner (KA1RFD) has announced he wishes to retire. Therefore, MEMA is in search for a new volunteer candidate who will serve as the next Maine RACES Director.

    Although this is a volunteer position, the successful applicant will be an active team member who will provide emergency operations communication support. The RACES Director acts as the liaison between the State Emergency Operations Center and other entities to ensure an emergency communications links. He or she advises the MEMA Communications Manager on Amateur communications policies and procedures. The person selected will be asked to carry a pager and will have to be able to report to the State EOC in Augusta during emergencies.

    The selected candidate must pass a criminal background check in order to be accepted.

    Requirements for this volunteer position include:
    * At minimum, General Class amateur radio license, 2-3 years experience with ARES or RACES, knowledge of multiple bands of operation, packet, and APRS radio;
    * Familiarity with the RACES requirements in 47CFR97 (Part 97; 97.407);
    * Familiarity with the current requirements for ARES requirements as set forth by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) and the ARRL Section Coordinator for the Maine Section;
    * Training in Incident Command and the National Incident Management System (this training will be provided to the successful candidate if he or she has not already taken it).

    Applications will be accepted by mail or FAX on or before Friday, May 16, 2008 APPLICATION DEADLINE EXTENDED!! Applications will be reviewed and the top applicants will go before an interview board consisting of MEMA Communications Manager, outgoing RACES Director, ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator, and the Vice President of the County Directors Council.

  • MAINE ARES & EMERGENCY NETS

    Kennebec County ARES Net meets every Sunday evening @ 1900 hrs (local) on the 145.390 repeater.

    Cumberland County ARES NET meets evey Sunday night @ 1930 hrs on the 147.09 machine.

    Oxford County ARES Net meets on the second, third, fourth, (fifth) Monday evenings of the month at 1930 hrs on the KQ1L 146.88 repeater

    Midcoast ARES Net meets every Monday night @ 1930 hrs on the 147.210 machine.

    Somerset County EmComm Net meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday on the 146.970/100Hz Sugarloaf repeater AND 2nd, 4th & 5th Monday on the 146.730/91.5Hz Madison repeater. All nets start @ 7:30 PM

    Aroostook Emergency Net meets on Mondays at 2000 hrs on the 146.730 machine

    Washington County ARES holds their weekly on-the-air meetings every Monday on the W1LH repeater, 147.330 - 118.8 tone at 1900 hrs. All licensed amateurs are invited to check in.

    Maine Emergency Ccommunications Net (MECN) meets every Sunday @ 1630 hrs local New Time!! on 3940 KHz (alternate freq. 7262 KHz).

    Tri-County ARES Net meets every Sunday @ 2000 hrs on the KQ1L Link System

    Waldo County ARES/RACES Net meets every Monday except the 1st Monday at 1930 hours on the 147.27 repeater

    Lincoln County ARES Net meets every Sunday @ 1900 on the 146.985 mhz (no tone) repeater

    Androscoggin ARES Net on the Auburn Repeater 146.610 no pl tone EVERY Tuesday 6:30pm except 2nd Tuesday for Meeting at EOC at 6:00pm, 2 College Street, Lewiston, basement of Fire Station

    Twelve County Emergency Net opens around 9:30 AM (at the close of the Public Service Net on 75M) each Sunday, on the KQ1L linked 2M repeater system. Net manager: Rod Scribner, KA1RFD, This net is a part of the national traffic system and is operated as an excellent example of what an amateur radio net should be. This net serves all 16 counties of Maine as well as parts of New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts as well as ships at sea.

    Maine Public Service Net meets every Sunday morning at 0900 local time, 3940 khz. N1KAT, Section Mgr.conducts admin. duties as Net Control the last Sunday of each month. FMI contact Al Sirois, N1MHC, Net Mgr. & Lincoln County ARES Emergency Coordinator.

    Maine Elmer Net opens at 7PM each Tuesday evening on the KQ1L linked 2M system. Net manager: George Drisko, KB1AQE. This net is operated primarily with the new hams in mind. Although technical sessions can get rather deep, questions from newbies will never be trivialized. Several very skilled OTs (old timers or experts) are normally on hand to keep everything on an even keel.

    Digital Net FRIDAY NITES @ 2030 hrs. on the KQ1L Link System, after SSTV NET for about 1 hour.
