SAN JOAQUIN VALLEY SECTION Report for the month of January 2010: SM Dan Pruitt, AE6SX- ASMs K6YK and N2NS, ACC W6DPD, SEC N6ZFN, OOC N1VM, STM K6RAU, PIC K6QI, TC W6TE.
Hello from the ARRL San Joaquin Valley Section.
This month got off to a fast start. Craig K6QI (SJV's PIC) accompanied by Dan Henderson N1ND, the ARRL Regulatory Information Specialist, on a tour of the Pave Paws facility at Beale Air Force Base. This was a one-time opportunity for the Sections of the Pacific Division to send representatives and hear, first hand, the Air Force point of view. They are primary in the 430 to 450 MHz band and are graciously attempting to resolve the interference issues without resulting shutting us down. They will also be at Pacificon in October.
I am always pleased to see new Hams and I am a supporter of the GOTA Stations at Field Day (you can download FD Packets now). Now ARRL has a contest for the newbie’s called 'The Rookie Roundup', happening 3 times this year starting in April. This looks like fun for the new contesters. The old pros can help out too, by throwing some 'Bones'! Information is on page 77 of the March 2010 QST.
As space allows I will enjoy relaying any events or occurrences that illustrates Amateur Radio as a hobby and public asset. It need not be a newsletter, if you think it important, it probably should be here. You should also send your newsletter to the Affiliated Club Coordinator (w6dpd@arrl.org) and the Director (w6rgg@arrl.org) vice director (k6jat@arrl.org) and to ARRL HQ (clubs@arrl.org).

Hello from the ARRL San Joaquin Valley Section.
February is gone, and I’ve added a few more miles to the odometer. I was in Bakersfield in January regarding ARES down there. This month I stayed a little closer to home. Naturally I made the rounds of the local clubs. I also enjoy getting out of the area and talking about ARRL. The Turlock Club asked that I attend and field some questions and they were very gracious hosts. I grew up in the Modesto area (my father was involved with Naval Communications at both Modesto and Turlock Airports) so it was like renewing my attachment to the area. I also was asked to give a full presentation on ARRL to the Mountain Club, in Oakhurst, which was also quite pleasurable. I believe having those “Eyeball QSOs” and direct one on one Question and answer sessions is a very pleasurable part of serving the San Joaquin Valley Section. I will be heading North in the next couple of Months and I will try and post a schedule as far in advance as I can.
The normal line up of conventions will be starting, and I intend to be at the DX Convention is in April, in Visalia, EmcommWest is in May, in Reno and PacifiCon is in October in San Ramon.
Craig Carter PIC for the section will be creating some Internet informational stuff and adding some pictures to the SJV repertoire so get your “graphics” together and he will get them posted for all to see. K6qi@arrl.net
