Western New York Section News
The 2009 EmComm East emergency communications conference, sponsored by the Monroe County Amateur Radio Emergency Service was another successful event with about 100 people attending. There were several communications vans parked outside for viewing. The Winlink presentation and demonstration was excellent. If you were not there plan on attending next year. Or better yet volunteer to give a talk/presentation!
Elmira Hamfest
The Elmira Hamfest was excellent as usual. A good turnout and flea market all the way back to the grand stand! A good group of vendors indoors too. The weather was great, I don't know how they do it but Elmira has the best luck with the weather, the weather always seems to be decent although a bit cold sometimes, but that's okay. A nice breakfast too. Hope you were there!

Hamfest Sponsors !
Generally most Western New York hamfests have well established dates and occur the same weekend from year to year. Please try your best not to choose a date that is already taken or a date you know another hamfest always uses, even if they have not announced their date yet. Conflicting hamfests draw attendees away from each other, and besides I can't go to both. If you are in doubt check with the other hamfest first if you think your date might conflict with them.
Please sanction your hamfest with the ARRL at http://www.arrl.org/FandES/field/hamfests/. You get a few door prizes and it helps you to avoid date conflicts with other WNY Hamfests.

NYS QSO Party
16 Oct 2010 NYS QSO Party The date is yet to be confirmed, but start planning now. I had to fix my mag-mount just before this year's contest began, but I got on the road almost as planned. I worked 74 QSO's running 5 watts. I made it to 7 or 8 counties, including a few rare ones like Cayuga, Seneca and Schuyler. I was able to work the west coast and a few europeans too, so the 5 watts worked pretty well. Worked several europeans on 40 meters too! Not bad for QRP. Keep an eye out for next year's date and other information at: http://www.rdxa.com, or click here RDXA.
Local BPL News
For those of you faced with BPL, please take the time to talk to and write your town board and object to the interference that BPL causes and also write your state government officials as well as your congress person and senators. We may know that BPL isn't worth it, but that doesn't mean that your town board does.
