Monthly Section News Summaries
Monthly Summary for August 2009
* From Mike Lisenco N2YBB, Section Manager
It's hard to believe that summer is already over. Time is running out for
those antenna projects (myself included.... I still have a couple to do).
I'd like to wish all who celebrate a very happy holiday as both Rosh Hashanah
and Eid ul-Fitr have just passed and Yom Kippur is coming up shortly.
NLI HAS TWO HUDSON DIVISION AWARD WINNERS!!!!
The Hudson Division has announced their annual awards winners. We are proud
to announce that Diane Ortiz, K2DO has won the 2009 Grand Ole' Ham Award and
Jim Mezey, W2KFV, has won the 2009 Amateur of the Year Award. Diane is the
former Section Public Information Coordinator and a Past President of LIMARC.
Jim is the current ARES Section Emergency Coordinator for NLI and the past
District Emergency Coordinator for Nassau County. Congratulations to both!
The annual event will take place this year on Sunday Afternoon, November 8,
2009 at Biagio's Restaurant, 299 Paramus Road, Paramus, NJ 07652 from 12:30pm
-- 4:30pm.
The dinner is always a great event with participation from all Sections within
the Division. The cost of a ticket is $50 (clubs can buy a table of 10 at
the reduced price of $450) with profits from the dinner and advertising sales
in the Awards Dinner Journal going to our Division Scholarship Fund and also
to the ARRL Spectrum Defense Fund to preserve and protect our hobby/service.
For more information, please contact Joyce Birmingham, KA2ANF, ARRL Vice
Director, Hudson Division at ka2anf@arrl.org.
Congratulations to our Division Director, Frank Fallon, N2FF and our
Vice-Director Joyce Birmingham, KA2ANF, on their re-election to another 3
year term in those positions. It was a tough and drawn out campaign, with a
lot of mud-slinging and some awful negative press (they ran unopposed. :)
I had the pleasure of attending a meeting called by Jim Mezey, W2KFV on August
30th at Suffolk Community College. The purpose of the meeting was to gather
all the individuals in the Section who are responsible for running and
maintaining the digital network in NLI. Discussions were held in which it
was decided that the packet network needs some upgrading and redundancy so
that it may continue to be a vital part of the emergency communications
network (as well as for everyday use). The meeting was well attended and
much was covered. More to follow as things move along.
A reminder -- The New York State QSO Party is going to be held on October 17th
starting at 1800 UTC. It will be a 12 hour all mode contest. For more
nformation and the rules please go to:

Fall Hamfest season is almost upon us. There will be 2 hamfests in the
Section in October. The Hall of Science ARC (HOSARC) will be holding their
hamfest on October 11, 2009 at the Hall of Science in Queens from 0900 to
1400 local time. For more information contact Steve at wb2kdg@arrl.net.
The Long Island Mobile ARC (LIMARC) will be holding their annual indoor
hamfest on October 25, 2009 at Levittown Hall starting at 0900 local time.
For more information contact Richie at hamfest@limarc.org.
If you have a club event that you would like to publicize, please be sure to
email me with all the particulars and I'll place it in the eNewsletter. If
it is short term, I can easily send out an email to the Section. Contact me
at n2ybb@arrl.org with the particulars.
As of the moment, my dance card is relatively empty. If you would like me to
attend an upcoming meeting of your club, please email me at n2ybb@arrl.org
and I'll be more than happy to set it up.
That's it for me this month. I hope all of you are enjoying the summer. Hpe CU
on the bands and in the NYS QSO Party!
73,
Mike N2YBB
