    Monthly Section News Summaries

    Monthly Summary for October 2009

Well Winter is upon us and all attention turns to mountain-top repeater and
antenna preventative maintenance. The month of October was filled with
preparation for H1N1 flu vaccination exercises. From what was heard, some of
the waiting lines got pretty tense and tempers flared. Please be careful and
as with any emergency operation do not become one of the victims. Nevada was
celebrated around the Section in different ways. The Las Vegas Radio Amateur
Club operated a special event station celebrating the holiday operating under
the call sign N7V. It sounded like there were no shortage of stations to
talk to. The Elko Amateur Radio Club participated in the Nevada Day Parade
in Elko, driving down Idaho Street throwing candy to awaiting children.
Maybe next year they will be handing out PL-259's!

Now for a word from our Section Emergency Coordinator:
SEC s GENERAL REPORT (October 2009) Had a most enjoyable visit with Clark
County ARES team at their October 24 meeting. Thank you all for your great
hospitality as usual. Pete, W7TKO is off and running as our new EC for
Humboldt County. I plan on trying to make it to the November 21 meeting,
weather permitting of course. If not that weekend, then perhaps a swing
through northern state over Skywarn Weekend, again weather permitting.
Several drills and exercises (SETs) were held around the state, which you
will read about in the DEC reports. These included a very successful exercise
with some stellar simplex action by the NE District guys, and the POD
exercise in Washoe County. Nice job guys!! Thursday night VOiP net going
well with good participation and a couple of new NCS ops to extend rotation.
The NV Hospital Assn. tells us that equipment is arriving and once all of it
is in, will be distributed around the state. We will advise when that takes
    place!
. EMCOMMWEST 2010 online registration will be coming soon. Executive
Director Dick Flanagan, K7VC will notify us when this happens. Lots of
planning continues, and a new, larger venue will be the Grand Sierra Resort
in Reno April 30-May 2, 2010. Looking forward to holidays coming soon, and
wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!
73 Don Carlson, KQ6FM Nevada SEC.

Speaking of EMCOMMWEST, are you interested in presenting at the event? Stay
tuned for information on how to sign up in future correspondence.
