    Monthly Section News Summaries

    Monthly Summary for March 2009

San Diego Section happenings for March 2009:
On March 14th, SDGARES meet at Scripps Memorial Hospital, in La Jolla, for the
"Annual Membership Meeting and advisory election.
Discussion of the San Diego Amateur Radio Emergency Services Group, Inc.,
Article of Incorporation and Bylaws took place. It was recognized that the
Article of incorporation meet the intent of the ARRL, Inc guidelines on the
use of the ARES logo and registered trademark.
It was also recognized that available, un-signed copy of the Bylaws was at
best contradictory to the Articles of Incorporation and confusing as written.
The major piece of business was the appointment of this year's (currently
April 1, 2009 to March 31, 2010) SDGARESG, Inc Board of Directors.
The Section Manager is automatically the Chief Executive Officer.
The Section Emergency Coordinator is automatically the Chief Operating
    Officer.
Three Directors were appointed: George Gross, III, KG6IDE, Len Fulbright,
    K5WFW and Steve Jensen, KI6JEX
At the Board meeting, Michael (Stogie) Panger KG6JCW was appointed as the
Recording Secretary. Board member Len Fulbright K5WFW was appointed as the
    Treasurer of the corporation.
George Gross KG6IDE proposed that the board dissolve the current (alleged) set
of Bylaws and adopt the ARRL approved bylaw to be amended as needed. The
proposal was seconded by Len Fulbright K5WFW. The proposal was passed.
A new set of by laws will be reviewed at eh April Board meeting and submitted
    to the ARRL for approval.

A budget was submitted by Len Fulbright K5WFW and seconded by George Gross
KG6IDE. The budget was passed and adopted.

On March 21st, the Section sponsored a Technician License Class in at the
Salvation Army Joan Kroc Center, in East San Diego. This Class yielded 35 new
    Techs.
The Salvation Army provided the Facility and the San Diego Amateur Radio
    Council VEC provided the exam.

More Volunteer Examiners and Instructors are needed to support the demand for
Technician Classes during the week and week-ends. In the near future, I
expect to contact most of the ARRL registered VE's that are listed in the San
Diego Section, as well as appointing a local coordinator for VE activities.

The Section will be sponsoring One-Day Tech Classes in Jamul, CA, on May 2nd
and in the Imperial Valley on May 30th.
