[This is a transcript of remarks made by ARRL Chief Development Officer Mary Hobart, K1MMH in Hara Arena on Sunday, May 22. The arena was filled with thousands of onlookers for the Hamvention prize drawing and announcement of ARRL Passport winners.]
"On behalf of President Jim Haynie, W5JBP, Chief Executive Officer Dave Sumner, K1ZZ, and all of the Officers, Directors and staff at the American Radio Relay League, we extend our thanks and gratitude to the Dayton Amateur Radio Association and Hamvention Committee for hosting the 2005 ARRL National Convention.
This event has exceeded our expectations in so many ways, due in large part to the volunteers that make Hamvention the "Greatest Amateur Radio Show on Earth."
[applause]
We thank each and every one of you.
And finally, we'd like to take a moment to recognize all of the ARRL members - especially Life Members - who help keep ARRL a strong voice on behalf of ham radio. We welcome all of the new members that joined us over the weekend, and those long time loyal members that come to Hamvention each year to make the event a success.
[applause]
Many of you visited the ARRL EXPO exhibit and joined in the scavenger hunt, called "ARRL Passport." This was made possible by the generosity of ham radio companies including our prize donors: Kenwood, Icom, AOR U.S.A., and Alinco."
