VE Express Newsletter

       June 30, 2008

****************************

=========================================================================

Dear VEs:

As you are aware, the New Extra Class Element 4 Exams are to be used at your test sessions beginning this Tuesday July 1, 2008.

For ARRL VE teams who are Formally Field Stocked by the ARRL VEC, five new Extra class test design booklets should have arrived to you via mail during the third week in June.

     ** Please discard any existing Extra class test booklets (2002 series)
        on or after Midnight, June 30, 2008, as they will no longer be valid. **

For ARRL VE teams who are using the Exam Generating Software, the updated version will be released soon and will be available on the ARRL/VEC web.  Detailed information will follow and will coincide with the software release.  Check the ARRL/VEC software web page  http://www.arrl.org/arrlvec/examwin/  periodically for up to date information.

    ** In the interim, VE Teams that did not receive a supply of the new
       extra class exam booklets and that are holding a test session in the
       first or second week of July should contact the VEC Department
       immediately.  These VE Teams can be sent a short-term supply of
       the new Extra exam booklets. **

As mentioned in the previous VE Newsletter, the ARRL/VEC exam generating software is undergoing a radical change.  The long-running ExamWin Software, a bit cumbersome in association with today’s technology, will no longer be used.  Instead we are working on a new contemporary program tool.  A web-based exam generating utility, being developed by the ARRL’s IT department, will replace our current ExamWin software to better serve our exam creation needs.  We apologize for the delay and as mentioned it's expected to be released very soon.
