2006 IARU HF World Championships

First al all I want to thanks Vlad-VE3JM and Don VE3RM, to give me the chance to operate IARU from Don's super station this year.

I wanted to operated this contest because of WRTC, as I was Argentina's team leader in WRTC 2000 (S522R) and Finland (OJ1C), I know the feeling of this event, and being in the contest, I feeling myself like being in WRTC itself.

It was my first real try to operate SO2R, for moments it was nice, but most of the times it was a mess, because the station wasn't ready to operate 2 radios at this time. My goal was try to duplicate my score from last year, but unfortunately the huge electrical noise in low bands (there are a continuous electrical noise of S9+30dB in the frequencies between 1 to 5 MHz, it just started some days before IARU), keep me short from my goal. That noise really hurts my score, because never I couldn't run in 80 neither in 160 and every QSO in that band was a 'pain in the butt", because copying the stations with 30 dB of attenuation in the front end and using the DSP at maximum processing to try to understand the calls really got me frustrated and very tired. Every QSO in 80 and 160 meter took me around one minute to completed and that is not the best way to get your maximum score, but anyway I enjoyed the contest, working 44 WRTC's station (several of them in 4 bands), working in 40 meter lot of the new VK's foundation licenses with 4 letters in the suffix, trying to move between bands some Central America's HQ multipliers, etc. See you in next contest 73, Claudio LU7DW/VE3AP/VE2DWA -- LU7DW

An all time first for our national club. After securing the "HQ" call sign this year's goal was to uncover some hidden talent and get on the air with 12 stations. What we did. Some were SOP low, others Multi-Multi high. From Rookie to seasoned contester to log-checker/merger it was learning by doing. For me, the 2006 IARU HF World Championships were really lots of fun. I am kind of new to contesting, so with each new event, I try to do just a little bit better than I did with the last event.Best 73 to all and DX from Guatemala -- TG9ANF

I never will forget this competition. I could not participate the time all, but was fantastic to hear some stations of the fifth region of Brazil. Congratulations to the organizadores for the party. 73, See you next! -- PV8DX

This was my first IARU contest. It caught me by suprise as I forgot it was on even. I did get to work it for a couple of hours and had many great contacts. Next year I will be more on the ball and work it for all of it. Had a blast and hope to see you next year. 73 Roland AH6RR -- AH6RR

It was my first experiece in a HF world championship and I really enjoied it even if I had problems with my vertical antenna and I've been obliged to work the contest with an emegency ER for 20 m fixed at the balcony's railing! However I worked Canada and some Asian stations. Hope to be in better working conditions next year. 73, Franco -- IZ2HAN
