A few comments collected from this year's census:

Many of you have asked if you should obtain additional copies of the Technician Class Video Course Workbook (order #6214) which accompanies the video course, or have your students use the Now You're Talking! book (#5978) The course book contains detailed notes that follow the order of the material presented on the video tapes. But, the Now You're Talking! book contains greater detail which your students will enjoy, particularly if they cannot bring the video tapes home to study.

Teachers should obtain a copy of the ARRL Novice/Technician Instructor's Guide (#6281). It's an excellent teacher's guide when used with NYT! It also includes a small chapter on using the video course together with NYT!--and a quick-look table which tells you what portion of the video tapes to play when covering a particular section from the book. --NQ1R.

• I use Amateur Radio "contacts" to enrich the science curriculum whenever possible. Also to help students understand the various modes of operation, such as packet, HF & VHF. We also have a computer linked to a 20-inch monitor to show the position of satellites such as Mir, DOVE, as well as the position of the sun and moon. --Virgil V. • Our electronics program offers Amateur Radio as a "specialization" to our "communications" option. Students who become licensed receive extra credit and competency credit. The package includes a sample grant proposal, and other suggestions for teaching Amateur Radio at a school. The package also includes details on the Instructor Discount Program for obtaining study materials for your students at greatly reduced prices.

Each year, the League publishes a book covering the educational successes, trials, and even failures of Amateur Radio school teachers, volunteer instructors, and recruiters. The book is called the Proceedings of the ARRL National Educational Workshop. The 1998 edition is filled with articles and lesson plans written by many educators. It is available for $12 (order #237). Please include $4 for UPS shipping and handling.
