I just recapped an SX-111 and found I have 120 VAC on the antenna terminal (not on the chassis). I don't know if this was a pre-existing condition since I didn't apply power before recapping it. Other than that issue, the receiver appears to be operating normally. Can anyone suggest where to begin troubleshooting? Clearly I need to recheck my work, and the next step is to check bypass caps which were not replaced. Any input would be appreciated! - Jim Branch KL7JBB |

It is likely that you need someone to do a close visual inspection to sort it out--perhaps even drawing a schematic of the circuitry connected to the antenna terminal. It is quite possible for ham gear to be extensively modified by former owners. Once in a while we hear of ideas that are actually quite dangerous--so much so that we don't want to repeat them here.
