I’m a new ham and want to up setup my first ham shack. I recently purchased a power supply and a Icon 7300 transceiver. The next thing needed is an antenna. I live in a HOA community so my options are limited.
I am considering one of the following options:

1) MFJ-1788 Super Hi-Q loop.

2) MFJ-936B - Hi efficiency Loop Tuner and a separate loop antenna such as
a MFJ-58B or similar.

3) W40P Loop with auto tuning.

Can you tell me your suggestion and why. Would a separate tuner and loop be better?

I’m aware the icon-7300 has an internal tuner, would the use of this tuner eliminate the need to purchase another tuner.

THANKS
Ronnie

Getting approval from a HOA for small loop antenna may be difficult under current laws. It may easier to put up a flagpole and use that as an antenna. The Freedom to Display the American Flag act of 2005 requires HOAs to make reasonable accommodations. There is a similar law in Florida that is more detailed in spelling out what HOAs must allow.

My HOA will not allow me to put up a flagpole and I'm limited to inside my house on the second floor and near a window.

Do you know of any antennas that would get me by, I do realize that it would not perform to peak.

Look up the EFHW8010 antenna from myantennas . com. I am in an HOA and no one can see it out side. Covers most HF bands without a tuner. Its just a small wire so anyone driving or walking by cannot see it. Something to look at anyway. Works for me.

I read where a fellow used 0.4 of a microwatt feeding a wire hanging from his curtain rod to work Japan on CW. It took him 2 weeks, but he did it. It can be done!!
