Inverted V Length Controversy.

Hello all Hams everywhere, I would like to settle this once and for all. Most online inverted V calculators will give you a leg length that is shorter than a dipoles. On 160 meters by several feet. 123' to 117' Then there are some sites that say longer. They site an error in the ARRL antenna book which remained uncorrected for decades. Apparently since 2003 the handbook now says longer. Please, let's settle this here and now. ;) 73, DW |

There are at least six significant factors. Insulation Height above ground Type of ground (conductivity and dielectric constant) Other antennas Angle of the Vee Interaction with the coax shield with/without a balun With this many variables, I suggest computer modeling or cut and try. I have two dozen antennas and really good ground, so my yard is hardly representative of the "typical" ham station.
