i am new to HF with my ICOM 7300 Christmas gift and wondering how I'm going to install an antenna. I have my 2m antenna in the attic, its not a walk around attic. pretty limited space. Can I install a dipole and have the wires not in a straight line or loop back? Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks, Mike KD9BKU |

http://www.arrl.org/limited-space-and-indoor-antennas This page may provide ideas. https://www.qsl.net/kk4obi/ This web site is devoted primarily as a resource for amateur radio operators to see what happens if they bend a half-wave dipole. https://www.eznec.com/ EZNEC is now free! You can use this software to model arbitrarily bent wires. It is hard to make an attic antenna work well on receive as the AC wiring has a lot of conducted noise from electrical and electronic devices. The digital mode FT8 using the program WSJT-X can help make HF usable in poor situations, but that won't help if you want to communicate via voice modes. |

I installed a dipole in my crawl space attic using two (metal) Slinky toys stung up on heavy twine anal fed a short distance down to my Antenna tuner/transceiver on the floor below. It worked well for me. |
