Hey folks, I’m converting a van into a camper and looking for ideas to automate a few things — maybe a pop-up bed or motorized storage compartments. I’ve never worked with actuators before, so I’m not sure what kind of specs I should be looking at. Anyone have experience with compact actuators for van or RV builds? |

Hey, that sounds like a fun build! I did a van conversion last year and ended up automating a few things like a pull-out bed platform and a lift-up table — it’s definitely doable with the right actuator setup. what is a actuators? I went with https://progressiveautomations.com.au/pages/actuators , and they’ve got a great selection of compact actuators that are perfect for van and RV projects. They offer different stroke lengths and force ratings, so it’s easy to find something that fits your space and weight requirements. I used one of their smaller linear actuators for a pop-up counter and it’s been working flawlessly — quiet, smooth, and strong enough to lift without struggling. Plus, they’ve got control kits and mounting hardware, which made the install super straightforward. Shipping within Australia was quick too, which is always a bonus when you’re mid-project. Definitely check them out — their stuff is solid and the customer support was helpful when I had some sizing questions. |

Thanks so much — this is exactly the kind of info I was looking for! I’ve been trying to figure out how to automate a few parts of my van build but wasn’t sure what kind of actuators would work. Just checked out Progressive Automations and it looks like they’ve got everything I need. Definitely going to give them a go on my pop-up bed project! |
