Old Days At Hq on LaSalle Road | W1ECH | on 25/6/21 |
I wonder how many OT's like me remember actually working at ARRL, 38 LaSalle Rd., West Hartford? It was a thrill and a privilege for me to start there 6 months before we moved to the new building in Newington! In fact, I bought and still have my beloved old oak swivel office chair! Any other OT's around here? See you this weekend on FD I hope! 73, Gary - W1ECH |

Field Day Battery Operation | W1ECH | on 24/5/19 |
The June, 2019 issue of QST, pages 74-75, describes use of a car charging system for battery operation of equipment on Field Day. In the article about their 2018 operation, it appears that the operators used the car to recharge their battery (ies), in part, for their equipment. Is that allowed? I thought the actual equipment had to be operated from a battery "...charged from something other than a motor driven generator or commercial mains." (see my quote below.) ARRL Rules state (in part): "6.9. Batteries may be charged while in use. Except for Class D stations, the batteries must be charged from a power source other than commercial power mains. To claim the power multiplier of five, the batteries must be charged from something other than a motor driven generator or commercial mains." What am I missing? Thanks and 73, Gary - W1ECH |

New VE3 Sections? | W1ECH | on 12/6/12 |
I note in QST that we will now have FOUR sections in Ontario (VE3) in the SS? Obviously, logging software sponsors will need to know soon what the abbreviations will be, so we can all then modify our programs, too. However, I have to ask why and how ARRL can justify so many sections in the Ontario section? Even New York has only four, Massachusetts has just two, and so on. I'd love to hear the reasons for the change. Thanks. 73, W1ECG |
