In addition to being licensed in the Amateur Radio Service under the callsign KD3VR, Joe holds two commercial licenses to operate in the Maritime Service. Radio Station WHV-929 is used to conduct a maritime net, Monday-Friday, 0900 EST on 4146 kHz USB for the purpose of providing technical information to boaters. Commercial license WHX is used to operate a commercial HF e-mail service for boaters in the 8 MHz band. Equipment is an ICOM IC-M710 150-W transceiver and a 125-foot inverted-L longwire. On the Amateur bands, Joe can be heard on 2, 10, 15 and 20 meters using a variety of equipment.
