ARLB060 Hurricane and storm Bulletin

The National Hurricane Center reports that a hurricane warning
remains in effect from Murells Inlet, South Carolina, to the North
Carolina/Virginia border. As of 1500 UTC, Tuesday, August 25, 1998,
Hurricane Bonnie was located near latitude 29.5 N, longitude 75.2 W,
moving north-northwest at 16 mph.

More than a quarter of a million residents and visitors have been
ordered to leave North Carolina's Outer Banks.

The Hurricane Watch Net will operate on 14.325 MHz. All stations
should remember this is a directed net. Do not transmit until
invited to do so by the net control station. Hurricane Watch Net
members will provide ground level meteorological reports to the
National Hurricane Center on 14.325 MHz.

ARRL section officials in the affected areas have announced the
following net frequencies in anticipation of possible
emergency-related traffic.  South Carolina: 3.915 MHz; North
Carolina: 3.923 MHz (7.232 MHz alternate); Virginia: 3.910 MHz
(7.260 MHz alternate), with health-and-welfare traffic on 3.947 MHz
(7.240 MHz alternate).

North Carolina Section Manager Reed Whitten, AB4W, reports that
North Carolina's Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) has been
asked to activate. An Amateur Radio station is being set up at the
National Guard Armory in Kinston to provide backup communication for
the state Division of Emergency Management. An amateur station at
the state EOC in Raleigh, North Carolina, will be staffed within the
next few days.
