ARLB064 FCC closes field office
 
The Federal Communications Commission has consolidated the functions
and staff of its Baltimore field office of the Compliance and
Information Bureau (CIB) with the Laurel field office in Columbia,
Maryland.
 
In a press release, the FCC said that in the past the two offices
served different purposes, and as the result of  FCC restructuring
the two offices performed the same activities. The FCC said that
since the offices were only 17 miles apart and served essentially
the same geographic area, it was more efficient to consolidate them
into a single location.
 
The new, combined facility is called the ''Columbia Operations
Center.''  The staff can be reached at 301-725-3474.
 
The FCC cited monetary savings in the move, since it owns the Laurel
property and was leasing space in the Fallon Federal Building in
Baltimore for that office.
