SB QST ARL ARLB105
ARLB105 Award to Wyoming youth

The ARRL Hiram Percy Maxim award has gone to Beth Harris, KJ7FC, a
15-year-old Amateur Extra Class licensee in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Beth was first licensed as a Novice in 1993 and advanced to Extra
Class in little over a year. She is an active operator and a member
of the SHY-WY Amateur Radio Club in Cheyenne.

Beth, a sophomore at Cheyenne East High School, is active in several
student organizations, including French and Amateur Radio clubs, and
has been singing in choirs since she was five.

Beth was nominated for the award by Paul M. Crips, KI7TS, a
communication technology instructor at Carey Junior High School in
Cheyenne, who said Beth ''has a true love of life, learning and
exploration. With young operators like Beth, Amateur Radio will
always have its rightful place as a national resource.''

Beth was honored at a luncheon on November 15, attended by her
parents; school officials; ARRL Wyoming Section Manager ''Rev''
Morton, WS7W; former Wyoming SM Steve Cochrane, WA7H; ARRL Public
Information Officer Wilson Sellner, WB7RRZ; and ARRL Rocky Mountain
Division Director Marshall Quiat, AG0X.

The Hiram Percy Maxim Memorial Award recognizes outstanding under-21
licensed amateurs and includes a 1000 dollar cash award. Nominations
are made through ARRL section managers with a deadline of March 31
each year.
