RFI Potential from new LED Street Lights WA1JFD on 28/2/12
All,

My town is about to embark on a replacement street light program to remove aging sodiums, (a know RFI problem) with LED lamps/fixtures.

FWIK: The LEDS may be pulsed with high current,

Are these new LED street lamps known to be an RFI problem?
Is it some BRANDS of LED street lamps or all?
Or, is RFI non-existent in these new LED street lamps.

I have an opportunity to inform the Town Fathers of better choices for this type of lighting to avoid the potential of RFI.

I must act quickly with concrete, documented information within a week or 10 days. I just got notice an hour ago of the Town managers plans to adopt this new LED street lighting at the selectboard Monday meeting.

I am happy to see the old sodiums go away with their RFI noise that can travel as much as a mile on the power lines.

I surely hope that the LEDS are not a problem as well.

Regards,

Charlie
