Description:

The Weld Amateur Radio Society is based in Weld County, Colorado with meetings held in Greeley.

The purpose of our club from the Weld Amateur Radio Society Constitution

  • To enhance the value of the Amateur Radio service to the public as a valuable, non-commercial communications service, particularly with respect to providing emergency communications, where possible.
  • To promote fellowship in Amateur Radio through diligent efforts to adhere to Federal Communications Commission rules and regulations within the bounds of good taste, and law of the land.
  • To provide for a self-supporting and self-perpetuating bond of common purpose among its membership.
  • To promote activities of an unspecified nature to the membership not necessarily limited to amateur radio but not detracting from the aforementioned purposes.

We fulfill those purposes in a variety of ways. We volunteer at 7 to 10 running events every year. Not only do we provide communications on the course but we often help out as traffic control and at a few long relay races we manage a campsite and provide food for runners and support staff. In the last few years our members have volunteered over 500 hours of their time at these events (not including travel time :).

Socially, we meet every Wednesday for lunch. This is a great time for sharing our experience to those that are interested.  We are an easy going bunch of people with a common interest and some very gracious members who are willing to share their time to help out other hams get radios programmed, understand what is needed to join in on the local packet network, learn where the good POTA spots are in the area, or answer any other questions from new and old hams alike.

Currently, member's interests seem to be packet radio, Meshtastic and MeshCore, digital voice and hotspots - DMR, Fusion, DStar, P25, and ???, AllStarLink, POTA, and of course, having fun!

WARS is a private, non-profit organization and is recognized by the U.S. Internal Revenue Service as an independent 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

One last thing from the president of the club........  Amateur Radio clubs are made up of volunteers who give their time, energy, and knowledge to make their club go. Clubs that succeed have members that are willing to give more than they take. And smile. Smiling always helps everyone feel good inside. 73, Rich Gordon k0eb
